Alex Downie & Sons Co. is a general contracting firm operating in the Youngstown/Warren area for over 79 years.  It was incorporated in 1935 by Alex Downie, Sr. and the principals at the present time are his grandsons, Ted Downie, Tom Downie and Alex Downie, III and great grandson, Brian Downie.

We specialize in new construction and interior alterations for commercial, institutional and industrial customers with a large percentage of our work being negotiated on a time and material not-to-exceed basis including a GMP with a group of long-term customers.  Most of our work has been in the fields of healthcare, banking, office building, retail, telephone exchanges, and manufacturing.

From our list of current and past work, you can see that we have completed many projects in healthcare, in additional to projects in “clean” environments such as bakeries, computer and telephone exchange facilities both as bid jobs and on a GMP basis.

On all current and many prior healthcare jobs, we have been involved in assisting to evaluate all categories of infection control such as Patient Risk Groups and Construction Project Type to determine the proper Class of Precautions specifically required for each project.  Our staff has worked in all areas of Medical Care Facilitiesincluding patient occupied areas and around medical staff, office staff, technical staff, and outpatients.  Along with our experience and training, we possess 4 Abatement Technology PAS 2000 Hepa Filter machines, two filter vacuums and various negative air/exhaust fans in our inventory.
